P2PU is joining forces with the DPL Foundation

Since 2015, we have worked closely with libraries to realize our vision of a world where everyone can learn what they need to thrive, free from barriers to education, by learning with and from one another in public spaces.

The DPL Foundation (DPLF) is based in Detroit, and their mission is to empower individuals and communities through the promotion of literacy by providing access to educational resources and opportunities.  Our executive director Q has had a longstanding relationship with DPLF, over 10 years, working on a project called Code Grow which supports Detroit youth with digital skills to thrive in a tech driven future while using innovation to address community challenges to foster confidence and self sufficiency with greater access to healthy food through gardening.  With our shared commitment to education, access and learning with a strong focus on public spaces and strong communities we believe it makes sense for us to work together in this climate, where resources for non-profits are growing more scarce.

What does this mean in practice? P2PU’s work will continue- with the same commitment to accessible, peer based learning – but with the added support, stability and local connection that DPLF brings.  We are welcoming the DPLF team into our global learning community while expanding our efforts to make Detroit a model city for community learning and digital empowerment.  The P2PU website and learning circles will continue to work and be supported under the umbrella of DPLF.  Both Q and Dirk will continue to work on P2PU.

We are excited to revitalize our work in peer based education alongside libraries with renewed focus and energy as part of the DPL Foundation family.  If you have ideas or questions about this next chapter, or thoughts on how we can build on and improve the work of P2PU, we’d love to hear from you!  Reach out to us at thepeople@p2pu.org or join our community call on May 14th at 12pm EDT.
Thanks for being a part of our community!
